Where your data lives

Everything you enter in Dipstick — vehicles, maintenance records, fuel fill-ups, receipt photos and scans, owner's manuals — is stored on your device and, if you are signed in to iCloud, synced through your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. The developer has no access to any of it.

Sharing a vehicle

If you share a vehicle with someone, that vehicle's records travel between your two iCloud accounts using Apple's own sharing mechanism. The invitation is private and by name — there is no public link. Nothing passes through a server belonging to the developer, because there isn't one, and sharing can be stopped at any time.

Camera and photos

Dipstick uses the camera to scan VINs and receipts, and can attach photos from your library. These images are stored with your data as described above and are never transmitted to the developer or any third party.

AI insights

AI insights run on Apple's on-device model by default — nothing leaves your device. If you choose to add your own AI API key (such as a Google Gemini key), insight requests containing a summary of that vehicle's data are sent to that provider under your own account, governed by that provider's privacy policy. The developer never sees your key or your data; remove the key at any time in Settings to return to on-device processing.

Vehicle recall lookups

If you use the recalls feature, Dipstick sends your vehicle's VIN to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public recalls service to retrieve safety recall information for that vehicle. No other information is sent, and the developer never sees or stores your VIN.

Sign in with Apple

If you sign in with Apple, an anonymous account identifier is kept securely on your device. It is not used to identify you and is not shared with anyone.

This website

dipstickcarcare.com sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads two font files from Google Fonts, which is the only request that leaves your browser; nothing else on this site knows you visited.

Children

Dipstick is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Because nothing is collected today, any future change that altered that would be announced in the app before it took effect.
